MIPRO 808T/R True Diversity Wireless In Ear Monitor System
If your considering more than one system, or a package deal with consoles etc., please don't hesitate to call for special pricing. Also ask about used rigs as our parent company (Freq City Sound) has 808TRs coming off tours all the time.
I know, “you’ve never heard of Mipro.”
Well take a minute to read this and I’ll acquaint you with Mipro and my story
with the company.
My name is Mike and I run a
sound company in Cincinnati. Check our clients list FREQ
CITY CLIENTS to verify that I do have a clue.
About 12 years ago, I became a tad bummed with Sennheiser
raising their SR 300 IEM G3 (at the time G2) wireless ear rig $50 a year. I
started looking for other options. I was in Europe scanning audio mags and noticed
Mipro wireless mics and wireless ear systems. I contacted them and was directed
to the US distributor.
For the last 13 years, I’ve sold literally 1000s of
the Mipro 808T/R. I have had 2 (two!) belt packs need a replacement jack (in 12
years and 1000s of units, that’s a bad ass performance record).
The Mipro 808 system is
True Diversity (NO DROP OUTS). This is really big guys. Neither of the
competitors have this. A “true-diversity” receiver uses two identical
tuners, each coupled to an antenna (two antennas). Built-in circuitry
automatically selects the strongest signal coming from the two tuners so that
even if one tuner has a momentary signal dropout, the other will still carry
the signal from the transmitter. Under adverse conditions of long distances and
weak signal reception, the “true-diversity” receiver will have five times
fewer drop outs than a non-diversity receiver. If the signal strength
increases by 10 dB (3 times), chances of signal dropouts improve to 45 times
less than the non-diversity receiver. In short distance operation, there is
virtually no dropout, no matter where the transmitter is moved relative to the
receiver. Not only does a “true-diversity” receiver give added sensitivity for
greater range with fewer chances of signal dropout, but it also has a better
S/N ratio when the signal strength is weakened to the squelch threshold level.
The 808 uses a magnesium alloy for the belt pack case. The other guys use metal
and steel which is heavier.
The Mipro runs on two AA
batteries which go twice or three times as long as the 9 volt
batteries. I change batteries every third show with the Mipro.
The Mipro 808T/R comes in a
solid carry case vs. a cardboard box from Shure and Sennheiser.
I also have Shure & Sennheiser wireless
ear rigs in my touring systems and they all
work well. The Mipro just has better features, costs less, and has
fewer drop outs than the Shure & Sennheiser units in its class.
Pro Sound News updates tours that are out with the big boys as well as regional
sound companies (Freq City Sound was written up for our work with Lou Gramm,
Styx, Survivor, Kansas and Asia). Clair Brothers (the largest) has the
Mariah Carrie tour and in the ears section of gear used Mipro is listed. She's a
singer with the bucks to pick any
piece of gear in the world she
Below are a few pdfs to pro-audio magazines reviewing of the Mipro MI-808. There's also a shoot out with other rigs written rather well.
These are other pros that took the rig out on the road. The main thing you’ll
read in their reviews is, No drop outs.
Let’s talk about
With the Shure
& Sennheiser systems, every now and then you’ll get occasional static or a
one or two second drop out. The signal always comes back but let me tell you –
when all you get as a mix is the ear signal and it stops – one second is a
lifetime. We’re talking panic!
With the Shure
& Sennheiser systems you'll need different transformers for every
country you travel - The Mipro's transformer will take voltage from 110V to
240V. If you rack more than 4 Shure & Sennheiser systems you need
combiner-splitters that cost as much as a whole ear system. The Mipro you can
rack 16 with no worries. The combiner for Mipro costs half of what the competitors
WILL JAMES - Doc Severinsen
The first use of the Mipro buds came at
a Concert with Doc Severinsen and the Phoenix Symphony at the Dodge Theatre in
downtown Phoenix. The highs were very crisp, the mids
very brilliant. The RF path was totally glitch-free, with no fading, fritzing
or drop-out. The noise level, even at full volumes, was pretty much
nonexistent. I tested the Mipro in-ear monitor system on 12 occasions, most of
those times the input to the transmitter was receiving signal from the cue
output of the monitor console. Each time, the Mipro system performed
flawlessly, with no adjacent channel reception of signal, showing me that the
filtering circuitry is excellent.
I found the Mipro MI-808 in-ear monitor
system to be of excellent quality. The RF path was clean, quiet and
interference-free. The ability of the belt pack to filter out unwanted RF
frequencies was superb. The construction of the Mipro system is top-shelf stuff
and will offer many miles of trouble free use. If you are in the market for an
excellent ear worn monitor system that is easy on the checkbook, I urge you to
check out this system.
